Announcement and call for communication

A new series of online seminars entitled Viachronie will be held between February and May 2026 on the theme of "ancient roads."

The aim of this event is to bring together and share knowledge on this topic. We are a collective of researchers, engineers, doctoral students, and experts who recently met to observe that numerous ongoing and past studies address this subject. The objective of this research is, for the most part, to reconstruct the routes of ancient roads that have now disappeared or been forgotten. The analysis of historical routes and paths is characterized by a variety of disciplines, approaches, methods, and tools. It therefore seems essential to pool knowledge and experience in order to establish an initial overview and advance research in this field.

In this context, we are launching our first call for papers to participate in these seminars.

The selected dates are:

- Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM,

- Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM,

- and Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Format: 20-minute oral presentations maximum. A maximum of 3 presentations per date to allow time for discussion and exchange.

Content: The chosen theme is "ancient roads," deliberately broad in scope so that this seminar can provide an overview of research in this field (both quantitatively and qualitatively), while also maximizing transdisciplinary exchange. Presentations may address this topic in the form of case studies, presentations of ongoing research, or theoretical reflections. All historical periods and all territories (regions, countries) can be addressed to foster a multifaceted and multiscalar understanding of the study of road traffic.

We therefore invite researchers, professionals, and students to submit their proposals for presentations, which must include an abstract of 300 to 500 words, the speaker's name, qualifications, and contact information. Submissions should be made directly on the Scienceconf platform before January 10, 2026.

The final program will be published after the selection of submissions.
